Procter & Gamble, the parent company of Gillette, has announced its plans to allocate at least 30% of the new construction in their redevelopment project for housing. According to a report by the Boston Business Journal, P&G has submitted a letter of intent to Boston’s planning department outlining their vision for the 31-acre World Shaving Headquarters in South Boston.
The redevelopment will also feature extensive green spaces and open areas along Fort Point Channel. P&G stated that this will be one of the largest waterfront parks on private land in this part of the city. While most buildings on site will be used for commercial purposes such as offices, labs and retail spaces.
Gillette intends to maintain its headquarters in South Boston but is yet to decide whether it will occupy space within its own development or lease offices elsewhere. Last year, P&G had announced that they would relocate Gillette’s manufacturing operations from South Boston to Andover, MA.
Overall, with an emphasis on housing and green spaces alongside commercial developments like offices and retail outlets; Procter & Gamble’s plans promise a well-rounded revitalization project for their Gillette Campus in South Boston.
