Gilbane Development Celebrates Ribbon-Cutting of The Upland, Breaks Ground on Phase Two of DC Affordable Housing Project

Gilbane Development recently marked a significant milestone with the ribbon-cutting of The Upland, the first phase of a three-phase redevelopment initiative at Barnaby & 7th in Washington, D.C. Simultaneously, the team also broke ground on Phase Two of the project, which will add 229 units across four new buildings.

“Addressing the affordable housing crisis requires strong partnerships, and Barnaby & 7th exemplifies what can be achieved through collaboration,” said Yarojin Robinson, Senior Vice President at Gilbane Development. “Gilbane Development is proud to be a part of this joint effort to create high-quality, affordable housing solutions in Washington, D.C.”

The Upland features 169 affordable apartment units, offering a mix of one- to four-bedroom layouts for households earning 30 to 50 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). Designed with transit accessibility in mind, the project is well-served by local metro bus lines and major highways. A newly constructed public road enhances connectivity and supports the city’s transit-oriented development goals.

Residents at The Upland will also benefit from a below-grade parking garage with 58 spaces, contributing to convenience and overall quality of life in this growing residential community.
