Georgia-Sourced Mass Timber Building at Ponce City Market Tops Out

619 Ponce, a four-story mass timber office building at Atlanta’s Ponce City Market, has reached its highest point. The structure features 87,000 square feet of office space and 27,000 square feet of retail space. Southern yellow pine harvested from Georgia forests on Jamestown’s timberland project near Columbus was used for the columns, beams and floor slabs. This sawtimber was converted to lumber at Georgia-Pacific’s sawmill in Albany before being transported to SmartLam’s mass timber plant in Dothan where it was manufactured into cross laminated timber panels that were then erected on site by StructureCraft and JE Dunn – making this the first such building in Georgia to use locally sourced materials with a regional supply chain.

“This is an excellent example of how architectural design collaboration combined with local wood suppliers can lead to creative yet efficient mass timber designs,” said Leif Johnson – Structural Engineering Director at StructureCraft – about the project.
