"Georgia Power Plants Receive $2.3B Investment from Energy Company"

Oglethorpe Power, a leading energy company in Georgia, is set to break ground on two new power plants in Monroe and Talbot counties. The combined-cycle plant in Forsyth will have a capacity of 1,200 megawatts and will be built on land owned by the company. This project represents an investment of $2 billion for Oglethorpe.

In addition, construction will begin on a new combustion turbine unit at the existing Box Springs plant in Talbot County. With a capacity of approximately 240 megawatts, this unit is expected to be the most efficient natural gas peaking plant in Oglethorpe’s fleet. It also has dual-fuel capability for increased resiliency throughout the year. The development of this unit requires an investment of around $360 million.

These projects demonstrate Oglethorpe’s commitment to providing reliable power for Georgia’s electric cooperatives while also utilizing advanced technology and sustainable practices.
