Gensler Plans to Revamp Chicago's Magnificent Mile

Chicago’s iconic Magnificent Mile is set to undergo a transformation with proposed plans aimed at boosting tourism, increasing revenue, and revitalizing the retail and entertainment hub. The comprehensive report “Reimagining North Michigan Avenue” by real estate experts Bob Winslow and Camille July, in collaboration with Gensler Chicago, explores innovative strategies for redevelopment. With a focus on enhancing the pedestrian experience by widening sidewalks and creating spaces for relaxation and engagement, Gensler envisions a world-class anchor for North Michigan Avenue between Chicago Avenue and Oak Street Beach.

According to Benjy Ward, Design Principal at Gensler: “Michigan Avenue plays an integral role in driving commerce, tourism, and culture in Chicago. It is crucial that we invest in its evolution to ensure it remains accessible, dynamic, and vibrant for years to come.”

The report also proposes revamping Jane Byrne Park with improved path flow while creating connectivity towards the Museum of Contemporary Art,making it an arts district as well as restaurant row.

This development plan aims to breathe new life into one of Chicago’s most beloved destinations without compromising its charm or character.”
