GE to Invest $500M in Arlington Manufacturing Facility

General Motors (GM) has recently announced its intention to convert to an all-electric vehicle fleet by 2035. Despite this, the company is reinvesting $500 million in its Arlington plant and maintaining a workforce of 5,200. This investment will be used for new tooling and equipment in the stamping and assembly areas of the facility that manufactures GM’s full-size SUVs such as Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade etc.

Executives have stated that production of fuel powered SUVs at this plant will continue into next decade at least. The Texas based facility has been part of GM for almost 70 years with over $2 billion invested so far; it survived COVID-19 pandemic along with chip shortage & union contract negotiation three years ago too.
