"Garden Oaks Sears Store to Be Replaced by Mixed-Use Development"

After 70 years of operation, the Garden Oaks Sears store has closed its doors, following the trend of other once-dominant department stores. The property at 4000 N. Shepherd Drive has been acquired by Sugar Land-based Lamasar Capital with financial backing from Houston-based Summit Capital and Delta LP. Along with the main store, an auto repair center is also included in this purchase.

The new development will feature a combination of retail and residential spaces under the management of Fidelis Construction. The project is expected to be completed within three to four years according to reports from Houston Business Journal.
