Galveston Wharves has announced plans for a new $142 million homeport, set to become the port’s fourth cruise terminal. The project will involve converting an existing cargo warehouse into a state-of-the-art 165,000-square-foot terminal, funded by the port’s cash reserves and revenue bonds.
The agreement between MSC Cruises and Galveston Wharves spans 20 years, with other cruise lines also able to negotiate use of the facility when it becomes available. Operations are expected to begin in November 2025.
The redevelopment of this central cargo warehouse was made possible by its previous tenant Del Monte Fresh Produce Co., which relocated to Freeport, Texas due to outgrowing the space.
In addition, Galveston has committed $53 million towards improving its current facilities in order accommodate Carnival Jubilee and attract other major cruise lines. This significant investment is expected boost both tourism and economic growth for the city.
