Galveston Wharves Investing $53M in Carnival Cruise Terminal Upgrade

Galveston Wharves is investing $53 million to expand Cruise Terminal 25 in order to accommodate Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Jubilee, which arrives in December. The expansion includes gangway modifications, a ramp, two elevators and an escalator as well as a new roof. This is necessary due to the fact that the terminal has been operational for two decades and needs more space than what current Carnival ships sailing from Galveston can provide; with its maximum passenger capacity of about 6500 guests it will be larger than those currently operating.

The port’s cruise activity generated 3,500 jobs in 2022 along with $568 million in local business revenue and $73.5 million worth of purchases by passengers and crew – figures which are expected to set new records come 2023. Funding for this project will come from cash reserves plus a proposed bond issue combined with an agreement between Galveston Wharves and Carnival .
