Ft. Lauderdale Airport Begins $404M Addition Project

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has begun construction on a new airline terminal, with an expected completion date of 2026. The $404 million project will cover 230,000 square feet and add five domestic flight gates to the airport’s current total of 71.

The decision to build this new terminal was driven by the significant increase in passenger and airline traffic at the airport. With a capacity for an additional 4-5 million passengers, it will also feature expanded baggage claim areas as well as more dining and retail options. Funding for this project comes from various sources including airport bonds backed by airlines and $80 million in state grants from Florida’s Department of Transportation.

This expansion is projected to create approximately 3,400 jobs related to construction work, benefiting over a dozen local small businesses. Once completed, it is estimated that around 1,000-1,250 permanent positions will be filled at the new terminal.

Overall Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport continues its growth trajectory with this exciting addition that promises improved services for travelers while providing economic benefits for both large corporations and small enterprises alike.
