French Alternative Meat Company Chooses Chicago for U.S. Headquarters

Umiami, a French food-tech company specializing in plant-based meat alternatives, has announced that it will establish its U.S. headquarters in Chicago. The decision comes after the company raised nearly $35 million to support its expansion into the American market, bringing their total funding to $107 million over three years.

The new Chicago office will oversee various operations such as marketing, sales, finance and research. According to John Hatto, general manager of Umiami North America, while the initial footprint may be small, there are plans to hire more than 250 employees in the Chicagoland area within three years.

When selecting a location for their headquarters,
Chicago stood out due to its renowned restaurant and culinary scene.
Umiami’s production technique involves using proprietary protein texturing technology called “umisation” which mimics the texture of meat fillets.

This announcement marks an exciting milestone for Umiami as they continue on their journey towards providing innovative plant-based options for consumers across America.
