For Sale: Historic Loop Office Tower and Grubhub Headquarters

Burnham Center, the iconic 22-story vintage Loop office tower and last building designed by famed Chicago architect and urban planner Daniel Burnham is now on the market. The nearly 585,000-square-foot building is currently 65% occupied, with GrubHub occupying 28% of its space as its largest tenant. A venture led by Chicago-based Golub & Co., which bought the property for $80.3 million in 2019 just prior to the pandemic, has hired Cushman & Wakefield to facilitate its sale at 111 W. Washington Street.

GrubHub recently announced it would lay off 400 workers and reduce its workforce by 15%. This comes as downtown Chicago faces record high vacancy rates; however Burnham Center’s close proximity to Thompson Center – soon home of Google – could help bolster occupancy in both Loop and Business District areas as they look for an upswing in activity levels overall .
