Flexible Work: Are Offices Ready? Mixed Answers Revealed

Flexible Work: Are Offices Ready? Mixed Answers Revealed

As employers continue to mandate a return-to-office policy, employees are pushing for a hybrid arrangement. A recent survey conducted by McKinsey & Co. revealed that “relatively few companies have aggressively addressed the full spectrum of capabilities” necessary to create an optimal workplace experience. The survey identified 12 key capabilities, such as gathering employee data, considering sustainability and leveraging advanced workplace technology; however only one third of these best practices were being adopted by progressive occupiers.

The main issues standing in the way of successful hybrid transformations include long-standing perceptions about success equating with number of in-office days and companies finding it easier to revert back rather than spend time on new ways working models which require significant financial resources and leadership support. Additionally, nearly half the surveyed companies weren’t using analytics to understand mobility patterns or employee demographics/perceptions – making it difficult for them predict nuanced trends like if certain populations are coming into office less frequently than others .

Organizations need not just understand that hybrid is now normal but also adopt true principles including creating policies/workflows/documentation so employees can work effectively from anywhere while building owners should differentiate their spaces through portfolio flexibility , hospitality services , modular furniture designs etc., link tenants with services around neighborhood etc .
