Flexible Work: Are Offices Ready? A Mixed Response

As employers continue to mandate back-to-office policies, employees are pushing for a hybrid arrangement. A recent survey conducted by McKinsey & Co. revealed that “relatively few companies have aggressively addressed the full spectrum of capabilities that would create a best-in-class workplace experience” when it comes to implementing hybrid models in the workplace. The survey identified 12 key capabilities necessary for successful transformations, such as gathering employee data, considering sustainability and leveraging advanced technology; however, many organizations are still struggling with implementation due to long standing perceptions and lack of resources needed for change.

The report also noted that nearly half of surveyed companies weren’t relying on analytics or research to understand mobility patterns or employee perceptions which could be hindering their ability to predict trends like if certain populations come into the office less frequently than others. To truly adopt hybrid principles such as creating policies and workflows tailored towards remote working requires significant financial investments from leadership teams along with magnetic and inclusive environments – something many organizations may not be prepared for yet according to McKinsey analysts .
Building owners/operators can differentiate their spaces through portfolio flexibility , hospitality services , modular furniture designs , shared workspaces etc., while offering occupiers solutions like better data trafficking so they can understand how employees use space . Furthermore linking tenants with services in surrounding neighborhoods is another way building owners/operators can help facilitate successful transitions into flexible work arrangements .
