Fillmore Linen Service, a locally owned industrial-scale laundry facility in North Lawndale, has officially opened its doors. The state-of-the-art facility will provide essential laundry services to hospitals in the Chicago area and is expected to process up to 30 million pounds of laundry annually. This development will also bring over 175 job opportunities to the West Side community.
Located at 4100 W. Fillmore Street, Fillmore Linen Service is the anchor tenant of the newly redeveloped business hub known as Fillmore Center. Formerly home to Calumet Baking Powder Company’s headquarters, this project was made possible through a collaborative effort between J&J Construction and Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives.
According to Alderwoman Scott from Ward 24th, this project serves as an excellent example of how positive change can be achieved through collaboration. She further adds that besides creating employment opportunities for local residents, Fillmore Linen Service also lays a solid foundation for continued community development and prosperity.
The success of this project would not have been possible without several partners’ contributions such as North Lawndale Community Coordinating Councils’, North Lawndale Employment Network’s involvement along with other organizations like West Side United, Skills for Chicagoland’s Future ,Chicago CRED ,UCAN,and Steans Family Foundation .
