After a competitive process spanning over a decade, the FBI has announced its plans to relocate its headquarters from Pennsylvania Avenue to Greenbelt, Maryland. According to Washington Business Journal, the General Services Administration (GSA) has deemed Greenbelt as the optimal site due to lower costs for taxpayers and better transportation access for employees of the bureau. The new campus is projected to cost $4.1 billion and will accommodate approximately 7,500 staff members. This decision marks an end of almost two decades of efforts aimed at consolidating Greater Washington’s FBI personnel in one suburban location while replacing the deteriorating J. Edgar Hoover Building in D.C.
