Fairfax County Approves Judicial Complex Infill Development Project

Fairfax County Approves Judicial Complex Infill Development Project

Fairfax County’s Board of Supervisors has recently approved an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan, paving the way for public facilities, retail spaces, and affordable housing to be developed on a 48-acre judicial complex in Fairfax city. This significant milestone allows for the construction of 700,000 square feet of public office buildings and up to 300 units of affordable multifamily housing on county-owned land at 4110 Chain Bridge Road and 10700 Page Ave.

The current site currently houses approximately 1.4 million square feet of public buildings including courts and detention centers. The long-term plan includes constructing four new public structures which will increase the total amount of available space by over two million square feet. Additionally, private developments such as City Centre West and The Ox Fairfax are also planned for this location. The first new building is set to house court support services as well as police departments pending rezoning approval this fall.

Future phases will involve demolishing old buildings in order to make room for newer ones that will serve various purposes including providing accommodation options like an affordable apartment complex along with space designated specifically for nonprofits, volunteer groups, and markets catering towards employees or visitors.

This development marks a major step forward in improving infrastructure within Fairfax County without compromising affordability or accessibility.
