Exploring Development Options at Charlotte Airport

The Charlotte Douglas International Airport has selected Crosland Southeast to move forward with a deal for the development of Destination District Central, a city-owned property. This project will cover approximately 40 acres at the intersection of Wilkinson Boulevard and North Josh Birmingham Parkway. The initial phases are expected to focus on retail and hospitality developments.

Preliminary plans include 50,000 square feet of retail space and two hotels with a total of 300 rooms. According to the Charlotte Business Journal, if all goes well, construction could begin as early as 2026. However, before that can happen, City Council approval is needed this winter followed by an entitlement process that could take up to 15 months.

Crosland has previous experience working with the city on projects such as Eastland Yards where they developed a master plan. They have also been involved in major mixed-use developments like Commonwealth in Plaza Midwood and Waverly in south Charlotte.
