Exploring Development Options at Charlotte Airport

Crosland Southeast has been selected by the Charlotte Douglas International Airport to proceed with a deal for the development of Destination District Central, a 40-acre property owned by the city. The project is expected to include multiple phases, with an initial focus on retail and hospitality development. Plans currently include 50,000 square feet of retail space and two hotels totaling 300 rooms.

According to reports from the Charlotte Business Journal, construction could potentially begin in early 2026 if all goes according to plan. However, before that can happen, a deal must be reached and approved by City Council this winter. If approved, it is estimated that it will take approximately 12-15 months for entitlements for the site.

Crosland has previous experience working with the city on projects such as Eastland Yards master plan. They are also known for their involvement in major mixed-use developments like Commonwealth in Plaza Midwood and Waverly in south Charlotte.
