Digital Realty Trust has submitted a proposal to expand its data center campus near Dulles International Airport in Loudoun County, Virginia. According to the Boston Business Journal, this early-stage plan suggests a potential size of 11.7 million square feet – a significant increase from the original plan.
While there may be limitations such as power availability and regulatory considerations that could impact the final size of this expansion, even a portion of it would greatly enhance Digital Realty’s portfolio. The project, known as Western Lands and acquired by Digital Realty in 2018, covers nearly 450 acres.
Currently with about 5 million square feet of data center space in Northern Virginia and more under development, CEO Andrew Power mentioned during an earnings call that there is potential for up to 900 megawatts of buildable capacity at Digital Dulles. Access to power is expected by 2026 and beyond.
