El Paso Adding New Hospital: Get the Latest Updates

With a population of 675,000 and growing, El Paso County Commissioners have approved the purchase of a former Legent Hospital with $55 million in revenue bonds. The facility will become UMC Surgical Hospital offering inpatient and outpatient surgical services for elective procedures.

The 74,000-square-foot hospital will feature 40 inpatient beds with 20 dedicated to telemetry care patients as well as six operating room suites, two gastrointestinal suites, one cath lab and an imaging department along with laboratory services. Additionally there will be an emergency department available outside regular hospital hours.

The total cost includes the facility purchase price at $44 million; equipment leases at $2.5 million; plus updates to assets maintenance IT work and equipment replacement totaling another $8.5 million ensuring that El Paso residents receive quality healthcare options when needed most
