The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded TerraVolta Resources with a $225 million grant to support the development of a lithium production facility in the Texarkana region, spanning Arkansas and Texas. This project, known as Project Liberty Owl, will be a commercial-scale facility producing battery-grade lithium using direct extraction technology from domestic brine resources.
TerraVolta plans to use the DOE’s funding to design, construct and operate their state-of-the-art facility which is expected to have an initial production capacity of 25,000 tons annually – enough lithium for approximately 500,000 electric vehicles per year. The company recently completed a successful supply well that further confirmed their premium resource and industry-leading concentrations.
The construction of Liberty Owl is scheduled to begin in 2028 with operations commencing in 2029. Once operational, it is estimated that over 125 permanent jobs will be created within the Texarkana region by TerraVolta’s Liberty Owl plant.
