Japanese life sciences company, Kyowa Kirin, has announced the selection of Sanford, North Carolina for its new pharmaceutical manufacturing complex. This $200 million investment is expected to create over 100 job opportunities. The Helix Innovation Park at the Brickyard in Lee County will be utilized by the company for this project.
According to reports from Charlotte Business Journal, North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Economic Investment Committee has approved incentives worth approximately $2 million to attract this project. Earlier on, both Sanford City Council and Lee County Board of Commissioners also approved incentive packages amounting to $3.86 million and around $4.7 million respectively.
Kyowa Kirin made its entry into the North American market when three medicines it markets in United States were approved by U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The company currently operates three other manufacturing sites in North America.
In recent years, Sanford has successfully attracted major projects such as Pfizer and Astellas Gene Therapies – a subsidiary of Japanese firm Astellas Pharma – showcasing its potential as an ideal location for businesses looking to expand their operations.
