The demand for high-speed data centers continues to grow, with Switch announcing plans to expand its Austin facility and construct a new power substation. The current 290,000-square-foot building on 14 acres will more than double in size to 609,000 square feet on a larger tract of land measuring 30 acres. While the exact amount of power needed for this expansion is unknown, most data centers require between 100-300 MW.
According to the Austin Business Journal, the current value of the tax rolls for this facility is $102 million. Previously owned by Data Foundry before being acquired by Switch for $420 million several years ago.
In addition to Switch’s expansion plans in Austin, Skybox has also announced their own billion-dollar data center campus project in Hutto.
