DMG MORI Federal Services, Inc., a global supplier of metal-cutting machine tools, is moving forward with a significant expansion of its Illinois operations through a new advanced manufacturing and research and development facility in the Chicagoland area. The company plans to invest more than $40.5 million in the project, which is expected to create 74 new full-time positions.
The new facility will be located on Goose Island in Chicago and is intended to support DMG MORI’s continued growth in North America. The company, whose North American headquarters is in Hoffman Estates, has identified a site that will combine office and production functions under one roof, reflecting the growing integration of engineering, R&D, and manufacturing in modern industrial operations.
According to the announcement, the planned building program includes approximately 25,000 square feet of office space and 65,000 square feet of advanced manufacturing space. This configuration is designed to accommodate both corporate functions and high-precision production activities, aligning with DMG MORI’s role as a leading global manufacturer of machine tools.
Construction on the Goose Island facility is expected to begin in the near future, with DMG MORI targeting an opening in 2026. Once operational, the property will serve as the center for the company’s North American R&D operations, consolidating and enhancing its research capabilities in a single, purpose-built location.
State leadership framed the announcement as a reflection of the current business climate in Illinois. Governor JB Pritzker noted that the state has cultivated a dynamic environment that attracts new companies and sustained capital investment, and he cited DMG MORI’s expansion as an example of this ongoing economic momentum.
The project underscores the continued appeal of infill industrial locations within the broader Chicagoland region, particularly for advanced manufacturing and technology-intensive uses. By anchoring its North American R&D activities on Goose Island, DMG MORI is signaling a long-term operational commitment to the market and reinforcing the role of specialized industrial facilities in supporting high-value manufacturing employment.
