Construction has officially begun on the highly anticipated Scheels Sports Park, a state-of-the-art $67 million sports complex and premier destination for sports tourism. The Illinois Times recently reported that the park will feature top-of-the-line turf fields for various sports including soccer, softball, rugby, lacrosse, football and baseball. Additionally, a massive 190,000-square-foot domed structure will house eight basketball courts and sixteen volleyball courts along with turf training areas.

After years of planning and development efforts spanning several years, the 95-acre indoor/outdoor site is set to open its doors by late 2025.
Funding for this impressive facility will come from sales taxes as well as hotel-motel taxes collected within city limits over a period of twenty-three years totaling approximately $33.5 million – covering half of construction costs . The remaining funds are being provided through financing from both developers involved in this project along with support from local Bank of Springfield .
