The Mirage Hotel, once the world’s largest hotel and costing a staggering $630 million, is about to disappear from the Las Vegas Strip. The guest rooms are now vacant and the doors have been closed in preparation for its demolition. Soon, bulldozers will arrive to make way for a new development on this prime piece of land.
But before it goes, let us take a moment to remember what made The Mirage so special. Its grandeur was evident from the moment guests stepped inside – greeted by a subtle piña colada scent and two magnificent bronze mermaid statues. As they checked in at the front desk with an impressive shark and reef fish tank as their backdrop, guests knew they were in for an unforgettable stay.
However, as with many properties on the Strip that come and go over time, The Mirage will not remain empty for long. Plans are already underway for an extensive renovation of this nearly 35-year-old property along with construction of a new 700-foot-tall guitar-shaped hotel – inspired by its sister property Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood Florida.
When completed in 2027,the newly rebranded “Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas” will span across 80 acres of land previously occupied by The Mirage- bringing fresh energy back into this iconic location on the Strip.
