One of the largest sports retail chains in the United States has recently filed permits for a new big box department store at Dadeland Mall. The company, Dick’s Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS), plans to build a 147,066-square-foot store at 7239 Kendall Drive on the site where Nordstrom once operated. This move comes after Nordstrom closed several stores due to declining sales during the Covid pandemic.
Dick’s Sporting Goods has signed a seven-year renewable lease with SDG Dadeland Associates, Inc., which is part of Simon Property Group. Originally founded as a bait and tackle store in 1948, Dick’s inventory now includes sports equipment, outdoor gear and athletic apparel. Currently operating over 860 stores across the country under various brands such as Public Lands and Going, Going Gone!, Dick’s reported consolidated income of $548.96 million in just six months of this year.
The new development marks an exciting expansion for Dick’s Sporting Goods into one of Miami-Dade County’s premier shopping destinations – without mentioning any specific names or brands that may be associated with it.
