Chicago-based McCaffery Interests Inc. has been chosen by Mars Wrigley to redevelop the company’s historic factory site in the Galewood neighborhood.
According to a report from the Chicago Tribune, McCaffery Interests Inc. will collaborate with local community groups to create plans for the 20-acre site on Chicago’s northwest side. Mars Wrigley is set to close its operations at this location later this year and move its manufacturing facilities elsewhere in the U.S. A spokesperson for Mars Wrigley stated that any redevelopment plans would be subject to city rezoning approval and ongoing engagement with members of the local community.
The landmark Spanish Colonial Revival building, located at 2019 N. Oak Park Ave., has stood for almost a century but will now undergo major changes under McCaffery Interests’ guidance. The U.S headquarters for Mars Wrigley were relocated to New Jersey in 2017 after parent company Mars acquired Wrigley in a $23 billion deal back in 2008; however, their global headquarters remain on Goose Island here in Chicago.
