Denver Commits $800M for Hotel and Equestrian Center Redevelopment
The City of Denver has announced a major financial commitment to support a large-scale redevelopment project centered around the National Western Center, home to the National Western Stock Show. The city will provide $23.3 million annually over the next 35 years—totaling $800 million—to help fund a new 160-room hotel, a 4,500-seat arena, and a 570-stall equestrian events center located just north of downtown.
This redevelopment effort is part of ongoing upgrades to the National Western Center and will be financed through local tourism taxes, which were approved by voters in 2015.
Construction on the equestrian center component of the project is expected to be completed by 2028. The development team includes notable private and public sector partners, such as private equity firm Fengate, construction company Hensel Phelps, architecture firms Perkins&Will and 4240 Architecture, hospitality leaders Sage Hospitality, real estate developer McWhinney Real Estate, and Oak View Group.
This extensive project aims to enhance the city’s tourism infrastructure and position Denver as a key destination for large-scale events in the equestrian, entertainment, and hospitality sectors.
