Deanwood Affordable Housing Complex Breaks Ground for Low-Income Families

Soto Architecture & Urban Design has commenced construction on H.R. Crawford Gardens, a multi-family affordable housing complex located in the Deanwood area of Washington D.C. The six-story building will feature 76 units, with 30% being three-bedroom layouts and twelve fully accessible units. On the ground floor, residents can enjoy a fitness center and community room while the top floor offers a community room that opens onto an outdoor terrace. Sustainable elements such as solar panels, a green roof, and facade louvers to manage sunlight exposure will be incorporated into the project’s design.

According to Fernando Bonilla-Verdesoto, founder and principal of Soto Architecture & Urban Design: “This affordable housing development not only boasts modern design but also meets Passive House Certification Standards – an impressive technological achievement that we prioritized during our initial design phase.” He added: “I am pleased that this project addresses the growing need for multigenerational housing within our city.”

The latest addition to DC’s affordable housing market is set to make waves without compromising on sustainability or style.
