Data Center Company Acquires 946,000-Square-Foot Yarn Factory in Greensboro

Enovum Data Centers Corp. has purchased a Greensboro yarn factory for $53.2 million. The 946,000-square-foot facility, located at 805 Island Drive, sits on approximately 95 acres.

According to the Triad Business Journal, Unifi, Inc., which is headquartered in Greensboro, is closing its Madison factory, listing the property for sale, and laying off 250 employees. Affected workers will be offered opportunities at other Unifi locations.

Founded in 1971, Unifi manufactures filament and spun yarn, staple fiber, resin, and polyester flake, which are used across industries including apparel, footwear, home furnishings, construction, medical, and military. Notably, the company also produces the Repreve brand of recycled fiber, which is created from recycled plastic drink bottles.

Bit Digital, as noted on its website, provides data centers and cloud computing services tailored for artificial intelligence and machine learning developers. The company also operates bitcoin mining operations in the United States, Canada, and Iceland.
