CyrusOne is advancing plans for a large-scale data center project in Medina County, with a new facility slated for a site along U.S. Highway 90 west of San Antonio. The company is pursuing construction of a data center totaling approximately 460,000 square feet, with the development cost estimated at $500 million.
The planned facility is located at 3397 U.S. Highway 90 W., in an area positioned just west of San Antonio. The project has been identified under the name SAT14A and carries an estimated completion date of June 2027, based on current planning information.
As part of the development effort, CyrusOne purchased roughly 57 acres off Highway 90 earlier this year. The site is about seven miles from downtown Castroville, placing it within a corridor that has drawn attention from data center developers. The land acquisition occurred in January and provides sufficient acreage for the planned data center footprint and related site needs as described.
CyrusOne is already an established data center operator in Texas, with a network of data center campuses across several major markets. According to the company, it currently operates facilities in San Antonio, Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston. In the San Antonio area, CyrusOne’s existing footprint includes multiple campuses on the city’s West Side.
The company’s San Antonio portfolio consists of the SAT1 campus, the SAT2 through SAT4 campuses, and the SAT5 through SAT6 campuses, all located on the West Side of the city. The planned SAT14A project in Medina County would extend the operator’s presence farther west along the Highway 90 corridor while remaining connected to the broader San Antonio market area described in company materials.
Reporting from the San Antonio Business Journal indicates that industry experts view the broader area as increasingly attractive to data center developers. They point to the combination of available land and access to power as key reasons why data center operators have been drawn to this part of the region. Those attributes have been cited as factors supporting additional data center investment and development interest in the vicinity of the planned CyrusOne project.
The announced Medina County development, together with CyrusOne’s existing campuses in San Antonio and other Texas metros, underscores the company’s continued focus on expanding its data center platform in markets where land availability and power access are highlighted by industry observers as important considerations for new facilities.
