The new owners of Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza, a beloved Spanish-style shopping destination, have announced plans for a much-needed transformation. The property was purchased in June for $175.6 million by an affiliate of HP Village Partners, a luxury retail company owned by descendants of oil tycoon H.L. Hunt and the founders of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Led by Heather and Ray Washburne and Elisa and Stephen Summers, HP Village Partners also owns Dallas’ Highland Park Village. They plan to invest an additional $100 million into revamping the century-old Midwest district with improvements such as cleaning up the area, repaving streets, upgrading storefronts and lighting fixtures, landscaping enhancements,and bringing in new tenants.
Spanning 15 blocks with 1.3 million square feet total space built in 1922,the Plaza boasts 804 thousand square feet dedicated to retail shops along with another219 thousand square feet designated for office use.The Dallas Business Journal reported on these exciting developments that are sure to breathe new life into this iconic landmark.
