Construction has commenced on the transformation of North DeKalb Mall into a vibrant, mixed-use district by retail developer Edens. The 73-acre property, now known as Lulah Hills, will feature a pedestrian-friendly design. The mall was closed in 2020 and is set to be redeveloped with the addition of 1,700 apartments and 100 townhomes. Additionally, there will be approximately 320,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space added to the existing AMC theater.
In September of this year (2021), Edens acquired North DeKalb Mall for $43 million. Following approval from the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners in summer (of) next year (2022), construction is expected to begin at the intersection of North Druid Hills Road and Lawrenceville Highway near Decatur.
The project has been granted $70 million in tax incentives by the DeKalb Development Authority after rezoning was approved for Edens’ plans for Lulah Hills.
