Related Digital, Blackstone, Oracle, OpenAI and Walbridge have marked a major milestone for The Barn, a multi-billion-dollar Stargate data center campus under construction in Saline Township. Described as the single largest economic investment in Michigan’s history, the campus is moving forward with all buildings now under construction.
The development program calls for three single-story data center buildings, each totaling 550,000 square feet. The first 550,000-square-foot building is nearing completion, while work proceeds across the rest of the campus. The project is expected to support more than 2,500 jobs during the construction phase.
The capital structure for The Barn combines institutional equity and long-term debt. Equity is being provided by Related Digital and funds affiliated with Blackstone. Fixed-rate, long-term debt financing for the data center campus is anchored by PIMCO-managed funds and accounts, underscoring the scale and institutional nature of the project.
In conjunction with the development, Related Digital, Blackstone, OpenAI, Oracle and Walbridge announced a new $10 million commitment to expand and modernize the Saline Recreation Center. This pledge adds to previously announced state and local benefits, including $14 million in direct investments supporting local fire services and farmland preservation efforts, along with thousands of construction jobs tied to the campus build-out.
The economic and fiscal contribution from The Barn is expected to extend well beyond the construction period. The project is anticipated to generate tax revenues in the billions of dollars, with average annual tax revenues of approximately $150 million projected for nearly two decades.
