According to the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), Oregon ranked No. 4 in the nation for seasonally adjusted construction job growth, adding 8,000 new workers from May 2022 to May 2023. This 7% year-to-year gain was third highest among all 50 states and District of Columbia. Statewide construction employment rose from 114,500 in 2022 to 122,500 in 2023 as several key projects are underway to increase affordable housing options across Oregon.
Texas led with 21,100 jobs added (2.7%) while Arkansas had the highest percent growth at 10.2%, adding 5800 jobs according AGC data which does not differentiate between residential and nonresidential construction workers; however both sectors experienced a roughly 10% wage premium compared with average wages statewide per Oregon Office of Economic Analysis figures for 2022 .
