BNBuilders, in collaboration with global design firm Gensler, has announced the completion of Phase I of the Pacific Center, a major life sciences campus located in the Sorrento Mesa neighborhood of San Diego. Developed by Sterling Bay, the 690,000-square-foot first phase includes four new buildings and significant site improvements.

Phase I consists of two six-story laboratory and office buildings, a 12-story parking structure, and a two-story mass timber amenity center. The amenity center stands out for its sustainable construction and architectural design.

“Our goal was to build a space that not only meets the technical needs of life sciences tenants but also fosters connection and well-being for the entire community,” said Alessandra Lapadula, project executive at BNBuilders. “The use of mass timber brought both beauty and sustainability to the heart of the project.”

Construction on Phase I began in June 2023 as part of a joint venture between Sterling Bay and Harrison Street. Looking ahead, Phase II of the Pacific Center development will feature a six-story office building totaling 279,000 square feet.

The life sciences campus is expected to enhance Sorrento Mesa’s standing as a premier biotech and innovation hub in Southern California.
