Conroe Sells Land to Developer and Cancels Performing Arts Center Plans

The Conroe City Council has recently approved a contract to sell the property located at 601 W. Lewis St. to Overland Property Group, abandoning previous plans for a performing arts center on the site. The city had initially acquired the property in 2021 and has now agreed to sell it for $4.3 million.

According to reports from Community Impact, the proceeds from this sale will be used by city officials to pay off bond debts and fund other approved projects within the city.

In October of last year, an architect was appointed for the proposed performing arts project and in July of this year, council members were updated on its progress through two architectural feasibility reports. The estimated cost for constructing a 2,000-seat center was $190 million while a smaller 1,600-seat center would cost around $70 million.

This recent development marks yet another successful transaction between Conroe City Council and Overland Property Group as they continue their efforts towards enhancing residential housing options within their community.
