Two brothers, Wesley and Jerry Pearson, are part of a development team with plans to construct an apartment complex that will also feature office and retail spaces. They have their sights set on a plot of land currently occupied by an auto care center, small office building, and retail space near the Austin American-Statesman building. The City Council recently approved a zoning change during their last meeting to allow for the construction of this dense project at 311 – 315 S. Congress Ave.
According to the Austin Business Journal’s report, the proposed redevelopment plan includes 488 residential units along with 30,000 square feet of office space and another 7,500 square feet dedicated to pedestrian-oriented uses on the ground floor. With this new zoning approval in place, these buildings could reach up to a maximum height of 480 feet.
There is also another major project in progress nearby known as “305 South Congress,” which is expected to bring even more changes to this area. This development will include six buildings featuring over one thousand four hundred residential units along with one point five million square feet for offices,a two hundred seventy-five room hotel, and one hundred fifty thousand square feet designated for retail shops and restaurants.
