Western Washington University (WWU) has reached a significant milestone with the completion of Kaiser Borsari Hall, an innovative educational facility. This new building not only increases capacity for WWU’s expanding programs in electrical and computer engineering, energy science, and computer science but also sets a precedent as the first publicly funded zero-energy academic building on a university campus in Washington State.
Spanning approximately 54,000 square feet, this state-of-the-art facility offers cutting-edge teaching spaces and hands-on learning environments. It features teaching labs, research labs for experiential learning opportunities, active classrooms designed to promote collaborative learning experiences, and administrative space for academic purposes.
Kaiser Borsari Hall is made possible through a partnership between public and private funding sources. A lead gift was provided alongside state and federal funds to finance this project. Design consulting services are being carried out by Perkins&Will while Mortenson serves as the general contractor and construction manager. The structure’s eco-friendly design incorporates advanced energy-saving technologies to achieve carbon neutralityand operate with zero-energy consumption.
