"Compass Launches Data Center at Former Sears HQ Site"

ComEd and Compass Datacenters have officially launched a significant data center project in Illinois. The former Sears Headquarters campus will be transformed into a state-of-the-art data center campus, with an estimated investment of $10 billion in the area over the next few years.

This marks Compass’ first data center campus in Illinois, featuring five hyperscale facilities on nearly 200 acres of land. ComEd is responsible for infrastructure upgrades for this project, including a new onsite substation that will be operational by mid-2026 to power the site. With plans to become one of the largest data centers in Illinois, this development is expected to generate around 1,000 jobs during its multi-year construction phase starting this year.

According to Gil C. Quiniones, President and CEO of ComEd: “The former Sears site will experience an economic revival through Compass Datacenters’ presence and our region’s exceptional infrastructure ensures their long-term success.”
