"Collaboration between FIU and Baptist Health to Establish $212M Health Center"

Florida International University (FIU) and Baptist Health South Florida have announced a collaboration to build a new academic health sciences and clinical facility spanning 100,000 square feet. The project has received an initial funding of $100 million from the Florida legislature, with an estimated total cost of $212 million.

With the state projecting a shortage of 18,000 physicians by 2035, this partnership aims to address this issue by creating at least 22 graduate medical education programs that will focus on specialty areas experiencing high demand but low supply. This is the first time both FIU and Baptist Health are joining forces in such an endeavor.

Leading architecture firm Stantec has been chosen to provide services for this project including architecture design, medical planning, landscape architecture as well as sustainability consulting. Having previously worked with FIU for over ten years in civil and environmental engineering projects, this marks Stantec’s first venture into providing architectural services for FIU.

The schematic design phase is set to commence in January 2025 with construction expected to be completed by 2028.
