Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building. This state-of-the-art research facility spans five stories and covers 189,000 square feet.
The building will be located on the site of Yost Hall and is part of a $300 million project that marks the university’s largest on-campus development in many years. Its main purpose is to attract top researchers, promote regional economic growth, and encourage collaboration across various disciplines. The building will include wet labs, dry labs, core labs, equipment platforms as well as other research spaces.
Leading this project are architecture firm HGA along with local partner DVA Architecture. The joint venture Discovery Builders consists of Turner Construction Company Inc., Next Generation Construction LLC., The AKA Team Inc., and Adrian Maldonado & Associates LLC.
Sustainability was an important factor in the design process with a focus on energy efficiency to reduce carbon emissions significantly. Completion is expected by 2026.
