City of Boston Seeks Suggestions for Building 3,000 New Housing Units

The Boston Housing Authority (BHA) and Housing Innovation Lab are currently seeking proposals from developers and community members for the construction of new public housing units. This Request for Information for Bids (RFI) follows Mayor Michelle Wu’s State of the City address, where she announced plans to identify locations for 3,000 new units.

According to BHA’s website, this presents an opportunity to reimagine public housing design and narrative in Boston. The goal is to create mixed-income communities that prioritize resident leadership and long-term affordability.

In addition to location suggestions, BHA is also interested in innovative ideas on how these units can be built on both publicly or privately owned land. They welcome diverse perspectives on what constitutes as public housing – including potential integration with commercial spaces, community centers or schools.

Responses must be submitted by August 7th.
