City Issues Request for Proposal for Gansevoort Square Redevelopment

The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to revitalize Gansevoort Square, located in the Meatpacking District on Little West 12th Street between Washington Street and 10th Avenue. The RFP outlines plans for up to 600 units of mixed-income housing, with a goal of making at least half of the units permanently affordable. Additionally, ground-floor retail space is also included in the proposal.

This project was first announced in October and will involve transforming approximately 66,000 square feet at Gansevoort Square into mixed-income housing units, new open spaces, and potential expansion opportunities for both the Whitney Museum of American Art and High Line. According to First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer: “The Adams administration is dedicated to rapidly increasing access to affordable housing for all New Yorkers.” She added that this redevelopment will not only address urgent housing needs but also create thousands of jobs while enhancing public spaces within the vibrant Meatpacking District community.

Overall, the NYCEDC’s RFP presents an exciting opportunity for developers looking to contribute positively towards addressing pressing issues such as affordable housing shortages while simultaneously promoting economic growth through job creation and improved public spaces.
