City Approves $26M Plan to Transform Vacant School into Multi-Family Project

A decade-long effort to transform a vacant Englewood elementary school, one of 49 shut down in Chicago in 2013, into a 22,000-square-foot health center and community center is headed closer to completion. Gorman & Company has been selected as the developer and co-property manager for The Regenerator project – an $26.6 million four story development – while NIA Architects will helm the design. Local team The Go Green On Racine are leading the project which would see 48 one to two bedroom units qualify as affordable housing within Woods Elementary building at 6206 S Racine Ave. As an Enterprise Green Communities project, construction will be conducted using environmentally safe practices with approval from Chicago’s Plan Commission now facing a vote from City Council’s Committee on Zoning and full City Council before completion can begin.
