"Chicago Mayor Appoints New Head of Housing Department, Johnson Announces"

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has appointed Lissette Castañeda as the new commissioner of the Department of Housing (DOH). With over two decades of experience in affordable housing development, housing services, and organizational leadership, Castañeda is well-equipped to streamline the affordable housing development process in support of Mayor Johnson’s recent executive order.

Castañeda brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role as DOH commissioner. She previously served as Executive Director for LUCHA, an approved agency by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for providing counseling services related to housing. Additionally, she has been involved with various organizations such as Palenque LSNA, Chicago Housing Trust, Illinois Housing Council and Chicago Rehab Network.

According to Mayor Johnson: “I firmly believe that everyone deserves access to affordable housing – it is a human right.” He expressed confidence in Castañeda’s ability to make this belief a reality for all residents in Chicago. Together they will work towards ensuring that every individual has equal opportunities for homeownership within their communities.
