After years of careful planning, Charlotte Pipe and Foundry has successfully launched its new plant, representing a significant investment of $460 million on a sprawling 700-acre site in the Oakboro area of Stanly County. This state-of-the-art facility replaces the company’s previous location in Uptown Charlotte, which had been operational for over a century.
According to reports from the Charlotte Business Journal, this cast iron and plastic pipe manufacturer now employs more than 530 workers at its new plant, which officially began operations last month. The impressive foundry spans over 11.5 acres under roof and required an astounding 1.2 million man-hours by construction workers to complete – making it one of the most technologically advanced facilities in existence.
In order to bring this project to fruition, both state and local incentives totaling more than $50 million were provided for by authorities.
But that’s not all – there are even bigger plans ahead for Charlotte Pipe at this expansive site! Despite already utilizing just 130 acres out of their total acquisition space thus far with their new foundry alone , there is much more potential yet untapped within these grounds.
