Charlotte Developer Receives Approval for Office Conversion

Childress Klein has received approval to transform a Charlotte office complex into a mixed-use development. The town’s City Council granted the company a rezoning for the Esplanade at SouthPark, allowing for up to 675 multifamily units and 277,000 square feet of office space.

This includes an existing 77,000-square-foot office space as shown in the site plan. According to reports from the Charlotte Business Journal, Childress Klein purchased this property in June of 2023 for $31 million. Originally built in 1982 and renovated in 2015.

The project will consist of four buildings along with outdoor amenities and green spaces. Additionally, one building on the site – Rexford Park II – will remain as is with its current size of approximately
77,000 square feet.

Overall,this new development marks an exciting opportunity for growth and revitalization within Charlotte’s business community.
